OMG I felt the same way! I wanted to chuck the book out the window haha! Pat and I always say that to each other when we read a part it in the book we don't like and we feel like Bradley Cooper's character in Silver Lining Playbook where he literally chucks the book out the window. I wondered that too that it was Daphne's dad and that is why he left to chew him out. Plus the box of fudge showing up at the apartment after her dad saying he was going to get some. I wonder if non-Michigan/people who haven't been to Mackinac Island or knows they have fudge would have deducted that. I just ADORED Miles!!! ♥ I found that interesting too! I know she felt very guilty and should have for missing her birthday but she was also dealing with the mess her dad once again left behind. And I could see why she tried to make the connection to her dad's behaviors to hers when they were vastly different because this wasn't a habit of hers. Yeah I agree I understood and would have felt the same way as Ashleigh but I did think she did take it too far too. As soon as Daphne realized her mistake and was trying to make it up to her by getting her coffee and Ashleigh was still icing her out I thought she was taking it too far. Daphne was trying to offer an olive branch by realizing she screwed up but also knew Ashleigh wasn't ready to forgive her yet so trying to give her space too. I'm so glad it didn't leave a permanent wedge either, I was worried that's where it was going. I liked Starfire too. I liked that too that she was trying to get to know Daphne and I got the same impression that she didn't know or understand the history of Daphne and her dad of why it was so tense between them. I agree that she was flighty but not like him and very much a free spirit, but unlike him she was honest about it by telling Daphne that they were going to see her family in Vermont, that they were just passing through, and then had other plans later in the year of travel. I got the impression she was oblivious as well because of all the stories her dad was telling and Daphne had a different memory of what actually had happened. I felt for Starfire because she seems to really care for Daphne's dad and she seemed oblivious too. I still have to google if those are fries are real because I want to try those! Omg we did the same either stopping on the drive home or in downtown Traverse City there was one we would sometimes go for dinner.
I don't mind reading books dealing with gruesome murders and police procedurals. Pat likes those type of books so when he moved his books in, I started to read some of those and found them to be interesting. I'm going to have to add those to my goodreads to remember to read in the future! I've heard so many good things/hype about Neil Gaimen. I know my dad was watching Good Omens on Prime because of David Tennant. I haven't seen it nor read the book but I've been wanting to. I'm glad to hear that the book is good! ♥
